Timetable
The College operates on a fortnightly timetable.
School closes on Friday afternoons at 6.00 p.m. when a fleet of buses takes the
boarders to within a few miles of their homes and returns them on Sunday evenings.
Academic Standards
There is a full range of subjects at both Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate levels.
In the Junior classes the core subjects (Irish, English, Mathematics, French) are set
during or after the first year so that each pupil is allocated to a class in which they will
be academically comfortable, this is known as the setting system, consisting of Higher,
Lower and Foundation level. There are separate classes for higher and lower pupils in
all subjects in the senior years. Kilkenny College has an excellent record of examination
results and most of our pupils go on to third level education in Ireland and Britain. Our
three Career Guidance teachers help pupils to choose subject options and advise the
pupils on third level opportunities.
