Over 500 pupils are accommodated in the
extensive boarding houses. Sixth Year boys reside
in the Wolfe Block, built a few years ago to allow
the senior boys to be more self-sufficient before
they enter the world of third level or the work
place. The rest of the boys stay in a separate
building which incorporates a large study hall.A House Master and seven male teaching
staff live on the premises as well as two Matrons.
The girls live in the original residence now known as Celbridge House and also have a
new residence. Several extensions over recent years have provided much improvement
to the girls’ accommodation. The House Mistress and six female teachers are resident
with the girls. Dormitories are built to include only a small number of pupils in each. Homework is
completely supervised by teaching staff.
Medical Facilities
A team of nurses provides 24 hour
cover on the premises and the school
doctor holds a clinic each school day.
Dining
Three full meals are served daily to all
boarders. Day-pupils may either partake
of school meals or bring sandwiches
and are fully integrated with boarders
in the two dining halls.
Tuck Shop
A well-stocked Tuck Shop is open
before school and during breaks
offering a wide variety of healthy foods.
Kilkenny College Parents’ Association
Kilkenny College has a very active parents’ association, which has three main aims:
1. To support the school in as many ways as possible, through cooperation and
communication between parents, the Headmaster, staff and the College Board.
2. It provides a structure to receive representation from parents and to help them
where appropriate.
3. It participates in Compass.
The structure of the Association is organised at an AGM, which is usually held in late
Autumn in the College. At this, approximately twenty representatives are elected to
represent the surrounding counties which send children to Kilkenny College. From
these, a Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer are elected. This committee meets about
every six weeks to discuss current issues. The association is financed by a small annual
levy per family which is added to the school bill. In addition, the Association usually
tries to organise an event per year which is both social and fundraising.
Parents are actively encouraged to become involved with the Association, as the time
commitment to it is not too onerous, but it is a very effective way of both helping and
keeping in touch with what is happening in the College.
Contact with Kilkenny College Parents Association or its Chairperson may be made through the school office or by email at parents@kilkennycollege.ie.
The Kilkenny College and Celbridge Past Pupils Association
This is an organisation which keeps the
former pupils of both schools in touch.
Through the funds that it raises, it helps
to support disadvantaged pupils as well
as contributing to the general facilities
of the school. Each year a committee is
appointed at the AGM held in May. The
association can be contacted at pastpupils@kilkennycollege.ie
