June 2008

The school had a couple of athletes who did well in the South Leinster and Leinster Cross-Country competitions.  Nessa Cooper-Millet and Maeve Keane performed admirably well in both competitions.

In April, KCK’s Minor and Junior Boys competed in a triangular sports between ourselves, Rockwell and Roscrea in Scanlon Park in Kilkenny.  The Junior team won and the Minor team gained some valuable experience from the day.

There were some very good performances in the South Leinsters in Scanlon Park.

The medalists were:

Matthew Thompson can 3rd in the Junior 1200m Walk

Margaret Byrne came 3rd in the Junior 200m

Kellie Farrell came 2nd in the Minor 80m

Nessa Cooper-Millet came 1st in the Minor 1100m and 2nd in the Long Jump.

The Minor Boys Relay team of Alex Condell, David Raeburn, Robert Bailey and Andrew Jeffers came third.

The Minor Girls Relay team of Sarah Donohue, Nessa Cooper-Millet, Kellie Farrell and Kim Pratt also came third.

Rhys Whitten 2nd Senior Discus

Jonathan Holmes 1st Senior 100m and 200m

Edward Healy 2nd Senior 1500m

Padraig Mahon 2nd Senior Shot Putt

Maeve Keane 3rd Inter 3000m

Katie Irwin 2nd Senior 800m

Cheryl Stanley 2nd Senior 1500m

In the Leinsters Nessa Cooper-Millet came third in the Minor Long jump.  Padraig Mahon came third in the Senior Shot Putt.  Jonathan Holmes came 2nd in the Senior 100m and 3rd in the 200m.  Jonathan came third in the 100m and Padraig came 6th in  the Shot Putt in the All-Irelands.

The school also competed in what we like to call “the Munsters” (a competition between ourselves and the Munster schools of Newtown, Bandon, Villiers, Midleton and Ashton). This year the competition was hosted by Newtown in Waterford. The Boys team came 5th and the Girls team came joint 2nd.  The highlight of the day was Jonathan Holmes breaking the record for the Senior 100m with a time of 10:54.  KCK will be hosting this event next year.
